While staying informed, you should also read columns and editorials. Watching talk shows is a good idea, too, but try to stick more to the single-commentator deliver and concentrate on how the star of the show frames and delivers their arguments. (I'm less interested that take in shows in which the hosts just argue with each other.) Some great column writers: * Jerry Brewer, Candace Buckner, David French, Masha Gessen, Paul Gigot, Shadi Hamid, Soleil Ho, Jessica Hopper, Sally Jenkins, Paul Krugman, Dana Milbank, Jeneé Osterheldt.... so many others. Don't look beyond editorials signed by "Editorial Board," too. * The opening monologues on The Daily Show, The Rachel Maddow Show, The Ingraham Angle, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert... all of that kind of stuff. |
