In 2007, the Pittsburgh Pirates were mired in their 15th consecutive losing season. The historic skid would last five more seasons.
That season also marked the first time the Pirates would visit Seattle's Safeco Field to play the Mariners. As a Seattle sports scribe, I was pumped. So, I wrote about it... The Pirates have made the playoffs the last two seasons and are on course to do so again. Though their strenuous hold over the top Wild Card is weakening, I think back to this column I wrote for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer whenever I start to get frustrated with the team for which I root. It's impossible for me to read it now and not just smile. A Pirates fan, for better or worse (June 18, 2007, Seattle Post-Intelligencer)
